Science experiments for children – Pinwheels and spinners to study the spectrum of light. The combination of different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) gives white light. These colors (called colors of the spectrum) are visible when light passes through a prism. In nature you can see the color spectrum of the rainbow, which is formed after a rain.
The colors are visible because the sunlight passes through the small drops of rain, which act as prisms. Rainbows appear when the Sun is at an angle less than 54 degrees above the horizon. For this reason the rainbow is seen in the early morning or evening.
